When is good time for transition from crib to toddler bed?
At some point, families will have to think about leaving the baby crib and transferring the baby to sleep in their “big” children’s bed. A suitable age is very individual and varies from a bit over one to about three years. The decision is influenced by many things. If a child is climbing a lot, then the decision to give up the baby crib is usually faster. Of course, because of the child’s safety. The type of crib also affects very much. In some of the cribs, the side can be lowered/removed so the bed is still suitable for an older child.
We had the pleasure of witnessing the delivery and assembly of toddler bed of one small boy. Little Miko is only a year and 5 months old, but climbing so much that crib became dangerous. A good alternative for a young child like Miko is the Korento toddler bed.
The designer of the bed Otso Leppänen wanted to create a safe place for the child. And such Korento bed really is. Small sleepers are often curling up to the curved bed end of Korento. The optional safety guard prevents the child from falling off, but it is still safe to get off the bed between the safety guard and the bed end.
Safety of the bed
The birch plywood bed is so strong that dad can sleep there too. The bed has been tested at Lahti University of Applied Sciences and meets the safety requirements of EN 1725: 1998 Domestic furniture standard.
Mattress
The LumoKids children’s mattress was chosen as the mattress for Miko. The core of the mattress is a foam. It is surrounded by a recycled wadding and an organic cotton cover. On top of the mattress is always a mattress pad that is made of organic cotton. A natural material against the child’s skin prevents from sweating and feeling cold. The mattress pad is also useful for dry training. You can choose to put an extra cover underneath, but the pad itself prevents also the mattress from getting wet. In the event of damage it can easily be put into the washing machine.
How has he slept in the new bed?
Mikko has a week behind in the new bed. And he has slept really well. The first night Miko slept completely without waking up at all. On the second night he realized that he could get of from the bed, after which the little man has walked at night to the mother and father’s bed. Sometimes he’s been returned to own bed easily. In a few nights, Miko has wanted to sleep in parents bed. Starting a daycare at the same time with the new bed has brought about changes in the life of a little man. So the parents have allowed him to sleep with them if he have so insisted.
