OUR STORY

Kids Changed Everything!

As you may guess, kids have been the most important source of inspiration for our furniture and lifestyle brand for children.

With three active kids and increasingly limited space, we were always on the lookout for furniture that would do more than just provide a place to sleep or sit, furniture that would actually create new kinds of spaces, from playtime to naptime, and everything in between. And, of course, bonus points if this furniture also looked nice and was made of natural, ecological materials.

When we couldn’t find what we were looking for in the existing market, we decided to create our own solutions.

Welcome to LumoKids!

Design Foundation

1. DESIGN FOCUS

We agree with Dieter Rams’s last principle of good design: what is needed is less, but better design, which forces one to focus on perfecting the essential elements.

2. A CHILD’S EYE

Children from the Art school of Espoo were involved in the design process from the beginning. Here is what they told us: we want to play and have adventures, so make it fun!

3. A SMALL SPACE SOLUTION

Furniture must respect the space in which it is placed. For many today, this means smaller spaces that require space saving solutions. Our beds don’t just save space; they create space.

4. EASY ASSEMBLY

When your bed is delivered, most of the assembly is already complete, although a small part of the work is left to you, to keep the transportation ecological and free of charge.

5. ECOLOGICAL MATERIALS

All LumoKids products are made from natural, sustainable materials. Wooden parts are made from locally sourced birch plywood and textiles from cotton or leather.

6. MADE TO LAST

Given these natural, high quality materials, your LumoKids bed is made to last a lifetime. And, should your kids ever decide to grow up, our products are easily recycled.

The materials we use

Our furniture are made of birch plywood. Birch trees used in plywood production come from Estonia, from FSC-certified forests. As a coating, we use water-based stain.

The core of our mattresses is a foam. The foam is surrounded by a recycled wadding and a cover made of organic cotton. Mattress pads are entirely organic cotton.

Bed canopies and curtains are woven from cotton.

In the hoodies of the mushroom stool we use a cotton blend and cow’s leather.

Production

Our products are manufactured by carefully selected partners in the EU area.

Our furniture are made in Estonia. Our partner is a 70 year old family business in Tartu. Birch plywood used in furniture is manufactured by the same company, within the same walls. This way, we can avoid excessive transportation during production.

Our mattresses  are also coming from Estonia. Our partner has extensive experience in manufacturing various mattresses. They have also invested heavily in the manufacturing of recycled wadding. That is why we are able to offer a cover made of a recycled wadding and organic cotton around our mattresses.

All interior fabrics are woven in Finland. Curtains, canopies and Mushroom stool hoodies are done by a 100-year-old family business in Lapua.
